Campaign to Preserve
the Practice of Medicine

Interactive Humanities at AIM

The brain and how we learn and think remains fundamental
to the study of medicine. AIM Academy in Conshohocken,
was founded by Nancy Blair and Pat Roberts, two mothers of
children who learned differently. AIM is not only educating its
students, but working with other schools to share its knowledge
on how to more effectively educate children who learn differently.
One in ten children suffer from dyslexia. Without schools such
as AIM Academy, many of these children will be left behind or
unable to achieve their full potential.
There's much more in this issue, including an article by Dr.
Jennifer Robbins on food insecurity among poor residents of
our city. The article examines the challenges low income parents
have in trying to pay for a healthy diet for their children, and
the ways physicians can help them.
I hope you enjoy this issue. *

Why am I
a PCMS member?
Despite being a hospital-employee physician, I choose
to keep my independence as a practicing physician, sworn
to uphold my oath to treat the ill to the best of one's
ability, to preserve a patient's privacy, to teach the secrets
of medicine to the next generation, and so on. My PCMS
membership says I will always put patients first.
In addition, the small membership fee allows me to be
connected to fellow physicians who have committed to the
same standards of conduct while giving a larger voice for
physicians everywhere to safeguard the ethics and practice
of medicine in this changing health care climate.
If you're not a member, my fellow members of the
PCMS and I urge you to help protect your professional
independence and preserve the practice of medicine
through your membership in PCMS.

Join us at the Philadelphia County Medical
Society today by calling 215-563-5343, x 101

Sincerely,
Henry C. Lin, MD,
Pediatric Gastroenterologist in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Children's Hospital of
Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Associate Medical Director
of the Office of Safety and Medical Operations
