Lineup announced for
3rd Annual Downtown Alive
Free Concert Series that returns to Penn Street in June
he Downtown Alive free outdoor concert series is returning
for the third time to Reading starting in June. The series
will feature a dynamic lineup of nationally-touring acts
from varying musical genres.
With the assistance of Centro Hispano, the 2017 roster will include
two "Latin fiesta" evenings. The series will open with international
salsa star Frankie Negron, a multiple Grammy and Billboard Award
nominee, and Charlie Cruz, who is one of Puerto Rico's best salsa
performers. The concerts will conclude with a trio of performances
by 24 Horas, an international bachata group; George Lamond, the
salsa and American freestyle music singer who is best known for
his No. 1 salsa hit "Que Te Vas"; and Funk Salsa Urban, a band
that uses basic salsa rhythms with elements of funk and urban to
create a new sound while incorporating Spanglish lyrics to cater
to a broader audience.
The series is being staged again on Penn Street by the Reading
Downtown Improvement District and the SMG-managed
Santander Arena. The major sponsor this year is Weidenhammer, which also sponsored the series in 2016. Berks County
Community Foundation and Berks County Convention Center
Authority are also providing significant funding for the concerts.

Each concert will feature a festival atmosphere and include
food trucks and beer for sale. All shows will be held in the
500 block of Penn Street and start at 5 p.m.
In addition to the acts already mentioned, others scheduled to
appear this season are:
Eli Young Band, a multi-ACM and Grammy-nominated country
music foursome, with multiple No. 1 hits on Billboard charts including "Crazy Girl," "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" and "Dust."
The Cadillac Three, an American-Southern rock band from Nashville,
TN, that has shared the stage with country stars Eric Church and
Dierks Bentley, and is currently touring with Florida Georgia Line.
Sister Hazel, the talented group that kicked off its career with
chart-topper "All For You" and has since released albums with
genres ranging from Southern rock to alternative and pop.
