ART ON THE AVENUE
Art on the Avenue
Set for its 23rd Year
in West Reading
Saturday, June 17, 2017
est Reading's 23rd annual Art on the Avenue is right
around the corner, and this year will feature - in addition to many forms of art by celebrated artists from
across the region and beyond - a variety of live music, food from
local restaurants, a cocktail tent and skateboarding demonstrations.
The festival is set for Saturday June 17, and organizers said that
it's looking to be one of the best ones ever.
"We are ready to go and looking forward to a great day," said West
Reading resident Lynne Burns, who chaired the event with Allison
Shannon, owner of Allison Clothing Company in the borough.
"In addition to a lot of really talented artists, we've got some great
musical acts and lots of fun for every member of the family."
Burns said members of the West Reading Revitalization Foundation, which organizes the event, are particularly looking forward
Avenues Summer 2017
to having the 400 block of Penn Avenue available for this year's
event. That block was closed to the festival for the past two years
due to traffic restrictions caused by the closure of the Buttonwood
Street Bridge. The bridge reopened in April.
A big attraction in the 400 block is expected to be a cocktail tent
sponsored by the Reading Occasional Cocktail Club.
"They're kind of a big deal," Burns explained. "They've been doing
a lot of pop-up events that have been really well received, and we
think people are going to love it."
A portion of the club's profits will be returned to the Revitalization
Foundation. 3's Co dj/vj group will perform in the cocktail tent,
which also is expected to attract festival goers.
"They've gotten a really big following, and 3's Co doesn't play around
here too much anymore," Burns said. "We're super excited that
they're going to be here."
