In the Community
As part of the third strategy, I will be focused on connecting
small businesses to the best available resources to help them
be successful. Navigating programs can be overwhelming and
our team is committed to making it easier. GRCA does offer
some financial resources in-house that can assist local businesses
and includes funding options for Minority/Latino Businesses.
We host a monthly workshop that is focused on educating
business owners on topics which may not be within their reach
or budget. It's called Coffee & Convos and it's free to anyone
who wants to attend. Through the input of our small business
committee, which is made up of over 25 local small business
owners, we have developed monthly topics that are specifically
geared to small business owners. Some of the topics covered are
marketing, social media, funding, human resources, customer
service, and much more.
We also offer Wednesday Diversity Mixers. This was an event
I started about 3 years ago when I noticed a gap between small
business owners and the corporate world. I also noticed that
the Anglo community was searching for a way to diversify their
network of professionals but wasn't sure how to reach them.
This event focuses on connecting local business owners, en-
trepreneurs, and community leaders from all different types of
backgrounds. Over 700 people have attended these events from
all across the community who now do business together which
is our ultimate goal. I am very proud of how it has grown and
GRCA has embraced and adopted this signature monthly event.
How do you spend your day advancing
the cause of small business?
There isn't a typical day for me. Troubleshooting, facilitating,
connecting, encouraging, coordinating - whatever it takes. I
started out by saying that small business is the backbone of our
economy and we are the local resource to support it!
