being able to be beached. You can climb aboard from the swim platform, or use the swing down boarding ladder, or open a hatch cover in the bow of the boat to flip down the second boarding ladder. You can step right out onshore without ever getting your feet wet when you beach the boat. Some months ago, we had an opportunity to drive the new Limited version of the Yamaha 240 Sport Boat and this time there was an AR 240 High Output version for water sports enthusiasts. This boat includes a folding aluminum wake board tower, Bimini top, the integrated swim platform we this performed. The dual throttle handlebar controls are difficult to describe, but they are intuitive and simple to use, even the first time you hop on board. Your right finger pulls the trigger for acceleration and to maintain your speed, but if you release both levers, you go into neutral. Your WaveRunner quickly coasts down to idle speed. Then, if you need to slow down faster than that, you can pull the left throttle control lever. This is really a reverse thrust system that can be used to decelerate quickly and effectively. The author has an ear-to-ear smile riding the new WaveRunner VX with RiDE technology. mentioned earlier, plus such amenities as a large wet storage locker, 12-volt power outlets, cup holders and a remote control for the stereo. What you won't see when you look at the boat is the new Articulating Keel. This is a great engineering development from Yamaha that provides greatly improved directional stability and maneuverability for the boat at all speeds. Compared to older boats with jet propulsion that didn't have the articulating keel, operating the Yamaha is light years ahead. RiDE - Yamaha WaveRunners In the past year, Yamaha has introduced "RiDE", the world's first dual throttle handlebar control system for their WaveRunners and we were really impressed with how well 20 Boating Industry Canada AUGUST 2015 With Yamaha's RiDE system, the patented bucket design forces water to either side rather than directly forward, minimizing nosedive and increasing stability. Deceleration distance is reduced by 30% compared to a WaveRunner without the RiDE system. RiDE is a great safety feature and there is an additional benefit as well; it allows you to dock the PWC very easily as operation requires no manual shifting or gears. The two throttle levers deliver the side thrust you need for precise docking and slow-speed manoeuvrability - simply swing the stern in to bring you alongside the dock. You have to ride these to believe how well they perform. I'm looking forward to the next media day when we can again get out on the latest new products from Yamaha!
