Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada
- Riding the Wake in 2016
Whether it's spending time with your
family and friends at a cottage, or flying
across the globe to compete in a world
class tournament, Towed Water sports
in Canada has helped provide many with
memories that will last a lifetime - this
season has been no different. At Water
Ski and Wakeboard Canada we are the
national voice who support the development of current and future world
champions through the delivery of
world-class programming and the promotion and development of towed
water sports.
Following the PanAm Games in
Toronto last summer, the 2016 season
has been action packed. With a record
number of water ski, wakeboard and
adaptive clubs and schools in Canada
this year, all provides a fun and safe
environment for grassroot, clinics and
rip'n'ride programs to teach our athletes about watersports.
For the first time at the Canadian National Exhibition
Waterfront in Toronto, Ontario, Canada hosted both the
Nautique Canadian Wakesurf Championships and the
Nautique WWA Wakeboard Worlds; one of wakeboarding's
most prestigious events. Both amateur and pro wakesurf and
wakeboard athletes from around the Canada and the world
participated while being pulled behind the Wakeboard and
Wakesurf boat of the year, the Super Air Nautique G23.
Valley Wake Park, one of Canada's top wakeboard venues
located in BC, hosted the Canadian Wakeboard and Straightline Championships resulting in our National Champions
crowned (WB Men's OPEN Pro - Christian Primrose, WB
Women's OPEN Pro - Mackayla Petrie, Wakeskate Men's
OPEN Pro - James Balzer)
Members from the National Show Ski Canada Team performed 'The Great Canadian Water Ski Caper' drawing huge
crowds to the CNE Waterfront each day! The National Water
Ski Show Team also placed 3rd at their world tournament in
September - revealing at the event that Canada will host the
2018 World Water Ski Show Tournament. The 2016 Barefoot
Nationals took place on Dream Lake in Napanee, Ontario
where they to announced that Canada would be hosting the
2018 World Barefoot Championship's.
After receiving 3 gold and 5 silver medals last year at the
2015 PanAm Games, Canada has once again managed to create an adrenaline filled year revealing their hard work has not
gone unnoticed by the world. The drivers, coaches, officials,

volunteers, family and friends have also all helped make this
past year unforgettable - and it's not over quite yet. The
Canadian National Team set a course record at the 57th
Nautique US Masters an invitation only event in May. Neilly
Ross, 14, claimed her second Masters Jr Women's Trick Title.
The National Teams head coach Steve Bush said, "I am truly
proud of how our athletes performed. Our athletes had to
meet or exceed Canadian records to get to this level of competition and they have reaffirmed Canada's position as a force
to beat. This is a special team and I am so proud of their
accomplishments both on and off the water." Manitoba hosted the Nationals this year where the competition became
intense. Overall Men's went to Dorien Llewellyn and Whitney
McClintock took first in Overall Women's. World Champion,
Ryan Dodd also competed in the Sentoas Night Jump where
he again proved why he is the world champion placing 1st. This
year Canada sent 6 athletes to Akita, Japan to compete in the
FISU World University Championships placing 5th overall and
having the experience of a lifetime.
We are excited for what the future holds for towed water
sports in Canada. From our grassroots to national athletes, we
are certain that their dedication and hard work will help
Canada achieve new accomplishments in the towed water
sports community worldwide. WSWC will continue to strive
to provide the best programs for our future athletes while
helping promote the growth of the sport in Canada.
