TomCat Boats
BY ANDY ADAMS

HERE IS A CANADIAN BOAT BUILDER that you may not
have seen, because the majority of this builder's production
goes to the USA and the Caribbean.
Under the leadership of owner Tom Strain, TomCat Boats
builds sailing catamarans and also does a wide range of custom
work.
For example, the company is just beginning work on a 50
foot sailing catamaran for a Canadian buyer who plans to sail
it south next summer.
Since the founding of the company, the goal at TomCat
Boats has been to build high quality, affordable sailing catamarans. Their two production designs are both innovative and
spacious. The larger of the two is the 32 foot TomCat 970S

while the TomCat 6.2, is a trailerable 20-footer.
This semi-custom builder, located in the Greater Toronto
Area in Newmarket by the southern end of Lake Simcoe,
builds each boat one at a time to their precise design specifications while allowing customers the option of customizing their
boat to suit individual needs and tastes.
Family owned and managed for over 20 years, TomCat
Boats uses industry-leading construction techniques like vacuum infusion and foam cored construction combined with a
level of buyer involvement in the build process that is
unmatched in the industry. The result is that customers get the
boat they want, built the way they want it.

TomCat 970S
TomCat 970S is a performance oriented,
entry-level cruising catamaran. The large
length/beam ratio of her hulls, combined with a light weight, and efficient
rig and a high aspect ratio foil centerboard, give excellent performance in all
winds and on all points of sail. Jib furling and main halyards are led to the
cockpit for singlehand convenience.
Twin outboards in wells provide quiet,
comfortable motoring. Wheel steering
