Mary Pritchard Outreach Education Award
The Mary Pritchard Award recognizes a CPS-ECP member
who has created course content suitable for web-based
delivery, or promoted marketing of distance education
courses or developed innovative new techniques or development of outstanding graphics appropriate for web-based
courses. The award was presented to Murray Richmond by
P/C/C Doreen Hinksman, AP.
National Environment Award
This Award recognizes outstanding achievement and efforts by members of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons to conserve or enhance the environment or marine
habitat. This was awarded to Bill Blancard of Vancouver
Power and Sail Squadron in Pacific Mainland District.
Bill was successful in organizing and leading the Great
Canadian Shoreline cleanup in Vancouver. The Squadron
worked with the Vancouver Aquarium and World Wildlife
Federation Canada. This is an annual project that started
in 2014 to remove trash from the beaches and promote
a cleaner environment. A letter of appreciation from the
Mayor of Vancouver was sent to the Squadron recognising
their efforts.
Recreational Vessel Courtesy Check Awards
These awards go to the top District, top Squadron and top
three individuals who have made significant contributions

to both CPS-ECP and to Transport Canada. These members
have voluntarily checked more than 1,198 vessels whose
owners agreed to a safety check, at boat ramps, yacht clubs,
marinas and other on-the-water venues across Canada.
Top District award: Rideau District 274 vessels.
Top Squadron award: Ottawa Power and Sail Squadron
142 vessels.
Top Individual award: David M. Little, Ottawa Power and
Sail Squadron, Rideau District, 70 vessels.

achieve the highest percentage of successful students in the
Boating Essentials examination in 2016-2017. The trophy is
maintained at the National Office, and a keeper trophy was
presented to Cape Lazo Power and Sail Squadron.
