The exhibition showcases works from the Ogden Museum’s permanent collection, as well as those from the Wesley and Galen Brown Collection. Ongoing exhibition. OPENING APRIL 25, 2013 House of Blues Self-Taught Outsider and Visionary Art Collection The vernacular art of the American South developed in a very similar way as the blues and gospel music of the same region. Many artists throughout the region worked separately to create a unique visual landscape that parallels the musical development of a truly American art form known as “the blues.” Growing up in Tennessee, Isaac Tigrett, founder of the House of Blues music club, developed a deep love for the music, art and culture of the rural South. Guided by Tigrett’s vision, the House of Blues has collected some of the finest examples of southern vernacular art for more than 20 years. This exhibition will showcase some of the collection’s finest examples of sculptures, drawings, paintings and textiles by artists including Leroy Almon, Roy Ferdinand, Reverend Howard Finster, Jimmy Lee Sudduth, Sybil Gibson, Mr. Imagination and many others. On view through July 21, 2013. SPECIAL EVENTS: DOCENT-LED TOURS First and Third Saturdays a month Experience the largest collection of southern art with your own tour guide.
