TRAVELING EXHIBITION COMING TO SELECT MUSEUMS ACROSS LOUISIANA With busy hands and minds, American workers perform a diverse array of jobs to power our society. Work is part of nearly every American’s life, whether for professional satisfaction and personal growth or to ensure the well-being of their families. In offices, factories, on the road and at home, millions keep the nation going through contributions to industry and American culture. The Way We Worked, a traveling exhibition adapted from an original exhibition developed by the National Archives in Washington, D.C., explores how work became such a central element in American culture by tracing the many changes that affected the workforce and work environments over the past 150 years. With funding and support from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH), six museums in small towns across Louisiana will host the exhibition from September 14, 2013, through June 29, 2014, allowing visitors to reflect upon Louisiana’s contributions to America’s labor history. In 2000, the LEH formed an exclusive partnership with the Smithsonian Institution to bring traveling exhibitions to rural SEPTEMBER 14 - OCTOBER 27, 2013 communities as part of the Museum on Main Street program.
