He attended Harvard University and was an Oxford University Rhodes scholar. He worked as a journalist for the Sunday Times of London and the New Orleans States-Item and Times-Picayune. For the past decade, he has served as CEO of the Aspen Institute, a nonpartisan educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, D.C.
