Jeff A. Hale, Ph.D. SHELL-PRIME TIME PARTNERSHIP SCALES NEW HEIGHTS! SUPPORT REACHES $633,000 FOR ONGOING NATIONAL EXPANSION he Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) is very pleased to report that the Shell-LEH National Gulf States PRIME TIME Initiative has received Year Three funding. With the company's support now reaching $633,000, and matched by more than $300,000 from the LEH and its partners, the three-year partnership easily makes Shell the largest private donor in the LEH's 42-year history. This unprecedented multi-state initiative is successfully delivering the following PRIME TIME programming: * * high-quality, after-school, evidence-based family literacy and critical thinking programming (PRIME TIME Family Reading Time) for at-risk families across the Gulf South, including Louisiana, Florida, Texas and Alabama, with plans to expand into Mississippi in 2014; and customized, needs-based teacher professional development workshops (PRIME TIME HomeRoom) for elementary school educators and administrators at Louisiana elementary schools, with plans to expand into one or more additional states in 2014. Senior Director of Institutional Advancement Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities 938 Lafayette Street, Suite 300 New Orleans, Louisiana 70113 (504) 606-4628 * hale@leh.org The LEH's award-winning, research-based, and outcomes-driven PRIME TIME Family Reading Time program is the only humanities-based family literacy and critical thinking program in the United States that is proven to positively impact both family reading behaviors and long-term academic performance in children, across all disciplines, including math and science. An important factor in the Shell initiative's success has been fruitful collaborations with outstanding partners. In Louisiana, PRIME TIME established school system-level collaborations with Sabine, Lafayette, Jefferson Davis and St. Bernard Parishes; additionally, we continued to work with individual schools, libraries and other appropriate sites statewide, often in rural, resource-scarce and underserved communities. Finally, across the Gulf South, we worked through affiliate partners such as the Florida Humanities Council, Alabama Humanities Foundation and Carrizo Springs, Texas, school system to implement programs. " RIME TIME has proven to be a catalyst for literacy advancement across the state of Louisiana and increasingly, across the Gulf South. The program's additional focus on teacher development, for Shell, is an investment in its future workforce. It takes collaborative efforts and the commitment of both industry and academia to educate and train the workforce of the future. For this reason, Shell is pleased to support the Louisiana Endowment of the Humanities' PRIME TIME programs that enhance teacher skills and student literacy." - Dr. Frazier K. Wilson, Vice President, Shell Oil Company Foundation and Director, Social Investment " he LEH wants to recognize and congratulate the Shell Oil Company and Foundation for underwriting this aggressive expansion of traditional PRIME TIME across Louisiana and the Gulf South, as well as for providing pivotal seed funding for a new teacher professional development program that is already yielding impressive initial results. In addition to directly impacting more than 1,500 children, parents and teachers, Shell's investments are both leveraging additional public/private support and being leveraged by school districts applying for state and federal grants to improve preschool and K-12 education and implement effective, Common Corealigned teacher professional development." - Miranda Restovic, MPA, PRIME TIME Project Director and LEH Deputy Director For additional information on the program, see: www.primetimefamily.org. 8 LOUISIANA ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES * Winter 2013-14 http://www.leh.org/html/instadv.html http://www.primetimefamily.org
