How did your company recognize that training was so important? At Dorman, we believe our greatest asset is our contributors. We use the word "contributors" instead of employees, as it reflects our unique culture of contribution. Dorman recognizes the value of investing in training to ensure growth in our people to align with the ongoing company's growth and performance. How has the training strategy evolved? As our business and HR strategies evolve, so too does our training strategy. As learning and development 24 | AFTERMARKET INSIDER | VOLUME 86 continues to evolve, we will focus on a multi-pronged strategy encompassing functional skill development, management, and leadership training. At Dorman Products, we recognize the unique set of development needs and priorities of each contributor. approach that will improve "time to success" for each new Dorman Contributor. We will also explore involving our contributors across all geographies together "virtually" for manager and leadership development in the future. What new techniques will/ have you employ(ed) for 2014? What do you think your training will look like in five years? Our 2014 approach will focus on functional skill capacity, management and leadership training. First, we will look to standardize our tools to foster a consistent language in communications and teams. Launching this year will be a new orientation and onboarding We plan to offer all of our business areas training activities that are more robust and connected to business results.
