AutoCare Insider Volume 105 - 9

for a Day
spurs this type of event.
Or, as is typically the case,
an organization will host
these meetings annually
to keep their advocates
engaged on the issues
and continually remind
Congress of their priorities.
Not only are these events
easier to organize than
hundreds of separate
constituent-legislator
meetings, but they often
result in a greater impact.

"I strongly encourage
the future generation of
the auto care industry
to get involved now and
have their voices heard
in D.C. The aftermarket
is fast-paced and
we all need to come
together to educate
our congressmen and
senators on our most
pressing issues."

"Fly-ins are an important
way for organizations to
help build relationships
between legislators
and advocates," said
Rikki Amos, director of
the U.S. public affairs
practice for the Public
Affairs Council, a leading
nonpartisan, nonpolitical
association for public
affairs professionals. "By
coming to D.C., industry
leaders are reinforcing their
commitment to the issues
and the value they put on
building and maintaining
relationships, which
leaves a lasting impact on
legislators and their staff."
Beyond meetings at
congressional offices, a
typical fly-in will feature
educational briefings,
guest speakers and
networking opportunities.
Most organizations highly
publicize these events,
inviting both media and
government to partake
in the festivities.
Finally, by bringing
everyone together, flyins foster a professional,
welcoming environment for

individuals from all corners
of an industry. A mid-level
manager with no advocacy
experience and a CEO of a
multibillion-dollar company
can be in the same room
interacting with the same
member of Congress
about an issue that affects
both of their livelihoods,
but in different ways. It is
these types of interactions
that are invaluable to
everyone involved and
can lead to long-lasting
influence on Capitol Hill.

"I have been coming to
Washington for years to
advocate on behalf of the
industry and I certainly
won't be missing this
year's Legislative
Summit. Events like this
provide me with not
only the latest intel on
important policy matters,
but also an opportunity
to communicate our
industry's positions
directly to my
elected officials."

DOES THE AUTO
CARE ASSOCIATION
HOST FLY-INS?
Yes! It has been five
years since the last
Auto Care Legislative
Summit, but with a new
administration and key
issues under consideration
by Congress, the Auto
Care Association felt it was
important to bring it back.
We need to reignite
the same passion our
industry brought to issues
like Right to Repair for so
many years and remind
our country's leaders of
how important we are to
the American economy.
