TOOL AND EQUIPMENT
THE Auto Care Association's Tool and
Equipment community is dedicated
to educating, informing, representing,
serving and providing networking
opportunities for the manufacturers and
distributors who specialize in providing
the tools and equipment needed to
perform repair and maintenance in the
motor vehicle and auto care market.
Members of the Tool and
Equipment community include
manufacturers, manufacturers'
representatives, warehouse
distributors, wholesalers, business
services and trade publications that
focus on tools and equipment used
in vehicle repair and maintenance.
The Tool and Equipment committee
is comprised of 22 members who
meet twice a year at the Auto
Care Association's Spring and Fall
Leadership Days events to discuss
common issues and projects. One
such project is the Product Information
Exchange Standard (PIES) white paper,
which is written exclusively for the Tool
and Equipment members. A working
draft of the latest PIES white paper will

be available for review during the 2018
Spring Leadership Days in Atlanta.
The Auto Care Association's
PIES white papers are developed to
"demystify" how PIES can be used,
what information it can carry, as well
as providing some examples of how
to use parts of the PIES Standard
as "single purpose" files, meeting
the needs of different users.
The Tool and Equipment community
also produces the Tool and Equipment
Purchasing Trends Study, a nationwide
survey that provides insight into current
and future purchasing decisions
of professionals who utilize shop

tools and equipment for automotive
repair. Understanding the purchasing
decision-making process can help
buyers make the right choice when
purchasing products. The report
covers a plethora of topics including
key factors influencing tool purchasing
decisions, reasons for purchasing tools
online, concerns over tool purchasing
decisions and more. The 2018 Tool
and Equipment Purchasing Trends
Study will be available in June 2018.
Auto Care Association President
and CEO Bill Hanvey will be the
keynote speaker at this year's sold-out
International Tool and Equipment Group
(ITEG) EXPO, which will take place April
19-21 at the St. Charles Convention
Center in St. Louis, Mo. Hanvey will
discuss the current state of the auto
care industry and the latest challenges
to the independent service channel
developing from the emergence of
automotive technology and telematics.
