Section II - Executive Summary EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2014 AFTERMARKET SIZE Products and purchased service covering all types of use in the U.S. automotive aftermarket reached $230.8 billion during 2014 at user-price (the price paid by ultimate consumers of aftermarket products and services). MAJOR MARKET SEGMENTS Aftermarket products totaled $142.9 billion at user-price in current dollars during 2014. Light vehicles (cars and light trucks) comprised the largest aftermarket product segment, $101.6 billion, followed by heavy and medium trucks with $27.6 billion in 2014 aftermarket products. All Other products reached $13.7 billion during 2014 at user-price; with Purchased Service totaling $87.9 billion. LIGHT VEHICLES Cars represented $39.0 billion in 2014 aftermarket products, up from $38.5 billion the previous year but less than $39.4 billion in 2004 aftermarket products consumed by passenger cars at userprice. During this ten-year span, passenger car aftermarket product sales declined at a 0.1% average annual rate. Aftermarket light truck products, in contrast, soared $17.4 billion between 2004 and 2014, climbing from $45.2 billion to $62.6 billion at user-price. Light trucks averaged 4.1% annual product growth, surpassing cars in 2004 light vehicle product share at user-price. 2014 VOLUME: 80 KEY PRODUCTS This analysis details 80 product categories totaling $101.643 billion in 2014 volume, the entire light vehicle aftermarket at user-price. Annual car and light truck 2014 aftermarket product volume was heavily concentrated among a relatively small group of products. Filters (Oil, Cabin, and Fuel) generated the largest 2014 car and light truck aftermarket product sales, $6.901 billion; followed by Clutches and Transmission Parts combining for $5.501 billion in 2014. Tools ranked third, at $5.432 billion; followed closely by Batteries with $5.201 billion in 2014 light vehicle aftermarket volume. Maintenance and Service Chemicals accounted for the fifth highest 2014 light vehicle product sales, $5.164 billion; followed Motor Oil at $5.018 billion; and Appearance Accessories with $4.446 billion at user-price.
