Athletic Excellence Honored at Supreme Convention
The AHEPA National Athletic Department presented awards
to outstanding athletes, scholar-athletes, and former athletes
at its Athletic Luncheon held at the 94th Supreme Convention,
July 27, Las Vegas, Nev. The luncheon presented a special
opportunity to recognize Hellenes who excel in their individual sports or who display excellence in the classroom, on
the field of athletics and volunteerism within their respective
communities. They are committed to perpetuating and promoting these ideals, all part of the AHEPA family's mission.
"We are thrilled to present our national AHEPA athletic awards,"
then Supreme President John W. Galanis said. "Each recipient is
truly deserving of the accolades they have received during their
athletic careers. They have worked extremely hard to achieve
excellence and reach great heights in their respective sport."

2015 World Series Champion, Standout College
Hockey Player Receive National Honors
Michael Moustakas, professional baseball player, Kansas
City Royals, and 2015 World Series champion received the
prestigious AHEPA Harry Agganis Hellenic Athlete Award.
Moustakas is in his sixth professional season as the Royals'
third baseman. He was the second overall pick in the 2007
Major League Baseball draft. For the 2015 World Champion
Royals, he batted. 284 with 22 home runs and 82 RBIs, and he
was named a 2015 All-Star for the first time. In the 2015 World
Series, he batted .304 and knocked in three runs. Mike was a
member of the USA Baseball Junior National Team.

Sam Anas, collegiate hockey player, Quinnipiac University,
received his second AHEPA William Chirgotis Collegiate
Scholar-Athlete Award. Anas concluded a stellar, three-year
collegiate hockey career with Quinnipiac University by totaling 69 goals and 63 assists in 121 games over three seasons.
He was the team's leading scorer in each of the three years. In
his final year, Sam tallied 50 points (24 goals and 26 assists)
and scored four game-winning goals. In April, Sam signed a
contract with the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild.

Five Inducted into Hall of Fame
The AHEPA Hellenic Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2016 were:
* Nicolette ("Nikki") Gianulias, professional bowler;
* Niko Koutouvides, college and professional football
player;
* John Margaritis, head women's basketball coach, UC
Riverside;
* Steven Schubert, college and professional football player; and
* Christos ("Chris") Tsiotos, college basketball player.
"The 2016 Induction Class is comprised of individuals
who have reached the highest levels of their respective areas
of competition," then Supreme President Galanis said. "They
also represent a wonderful cross-section of sports, spanning
all levels, be it amateur, scholastic and professional. Their
one common denominator is they have sustained success over
a long period of time. We are thrilled to welcome them into the
AHEPA Hall of Fame."
