THE AHEPAN ยท Fall 2016

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your Supreme President for the 2016-17 administrative year.
My sincere gratitude is extended to the entire Brotherhood for the faith and confidence placed in my
abilities to serve the Order at the highest level. I look forward to working with everyone we strive to
meet and fulfill our worthy mission together.
As we embark toward our landmark 95th year, our Order and the community face significant
challenges. With regard to our Order, let's remember we are a Brotherhood. Our fraternal bonds are
what make AHEPA a unique organization, having a special place that has been woven into the Fabric
of America. Our fraternal bonds also serve to unify us. Standing united, I am confident our Order will
prosper and the community at-large will benefit from our shared commitment to Hellenic ideals and
community service.
AHEPA must remain steadfast when it comes to helping those in need. By the time a Brother
becomes Supreme President, he has traveled extensively as he rises up the ranks. Throughout my
travels, I have been amazed at the charitable work AHEPA chapters provide to their communities.
The good deeds conducted through volunteer
time, energy and resources seem endless.
Furthermore, I pledge to continue the work
of my predecessors who have taken great
measures to see that Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at World
Trade Center is rebuilt. As a September 11
survivor, this capital campaign which AHEPA
has undertaken has special meaning.
Moreover, please take a moment to read in
this issue how AHEPA is making a difference
in education. The 2016 session of the Journey
to Greece program was another success, and I
thank our partners at Webster University and
the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for making With American Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt (center) are
the program a reality. My delight came when (l-r): Executive Director Basil Mossaidis, Chairman Nicholas

to the students' semester, which nicely complemented their academic work. The program offers the ability for students to earn college credit,
which I believe is unique and sets the program apart from others.
Finally, AHEPA will continue to be the sturdy bridge that strengthens United States relations with
Greece and Cyprus and stands for religious freedom. In September, AHEPA held a fruitful meeting
with the new U.S. ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt. Also, AHEPA has welcomed the new ambassadors of Greece and the Republic of Cyprus to the United States. We also had the opportunity
to greet Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras and President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades when the two leaders were in New York City for the UN General Assembly. As it always
has been, AHEPA stands ready to assist these leaders in their formidable tasks as a vehicle through
which constructive communication can be facilitated to achieve the best interests of all stakeholders.
Thank you, again, for the honor to serve as Supreme President. I look forward to seeing and
meeting the Brethren on my travels throughout the year.
