Molon Labe Chapter 542, Sterling, Va.
The chapter presented a
$1,000 donation to the students at Loudoun School
for the Gifted (LSG) to assist
them with the rehabilitation of the historic Ashburn
Colored School (ACS) and
the creation of the adjacent
Museum of Education. The
Ashburn Colored School
project received attention
in October after the school,
which was built in the nineteenth century to educate
African American children living in northern Virginia, was vandalized
with racist and vulgar graffiti. The community rallied around it to repair
the damage. AHEPA Chapter 542 became aware of the students' endeavor
to save the ACS and reached out to support them with the $1,000 donation, which it raised and presented to Deep Sran, LSG founder, and his
students, Jan. 9, 2017.
Delphi Chapter 25, Manhattan, N.Y.
The chapter donated $2,000 to AHEPA's Service
Dogs for Warriors Program, which supports K9 for
Warriors. K9 for Warriors provides service canines
to our Warriors suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress
Disability, traumatic brain injury and/or military
sexual trauma as a result of military service post9/11. During the Jan. 24 presentation, Very Rev.
Archimandrite Vasilios Bassakyros, a Vietnam veteran, surprised the audience by making a personal
donation of $1,000 to the program. In addition,
Supreme President Andrew Zachariades administered the Oath at an initiation of 35 candidates over
which Supreme Treasurer Jimmy Kokotas presided.
