AHEPA FAMILY CHAPTER NEWS
District 12
AHEPA Chapter 78, Gary/Merrillville, Ind.
Brother Peter Murdakes and his wife, Victoria, spearheaded an effort to deliver more than 200 packages donated by members
and friends of Chapter 78 to the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program, Dec. 8, 2016. In sum, Chapter 78 donated more than $2,200
dollars to the Angel Tree
Program which ensured at
least 50 children had gifts
for Christmas. It didn't end
there. Brothers Murdakes,
Tom Coil, George Domoras,
Nick Kavadas and Nick
Tournis helped to distribute gifts to needy families,
Dec. 20. Brother Murdakes
also volunteers weekly at a
Hammond Soup Kitchen. Finally, at Thanksgiving, the brothers cooked dinner for low income and homeless veterans, Nov. 18.
The meals were served at the new 44-unit Northwest Indiana Veterans Village, Gary, Ind. The chapter also donated $3,000 and
48 turkeys to the Ross Township Food Pantry and "Harvest for the Hungry" at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church,
Merrillville, Ind. The chapter contributed to 4,000 meals being served.

AHEPA Chapter 93
Woodlawn, Ill.
District 16
AHEPA Chapter 20, Dallas, Texas
The chapter met to honor its members who served in the United States Armed
Forces, and its ally, Greece. Twenty of the 24 eligible members were presented
an AHEPA Medal for Military Service pin and certificate by retired Major
General Harold G. Bunch. In addition, the chapter honored Lifetime Ahepans
with a Certificate of Merit. A Color Guard provided by the Woodrow Wilson
High School ROTC opened and closed the program. Chapter Vice President
Michael Petridis chaired the event which was attended by nearly 100 persons.
The chapter raised $13,000 at a fundraising event held Dec. 28, 2016, to help the
Bezanis family, who may lose their home
that has been specially retrofitted for their
quadriplegic son, Nikolas. AHEPA Chapter
78, Merrillville, Ind., contributed $1,250
to the cause. Nikolas' father, Paul, is an
Ahepan.
