AHEPA FAMILY CHAPTER NEWS

District 1
Mother Lodge Chapter 1, Atlanta, Ga.

Nick Stratas Chapter 310, Mobile, Ala.

Brothers, family and friends dropped by the home of longtime Ahepan, Brother Charlie Vlass, to celebrate his 92nd
birthday, Feb. 23, 2014. Brother Charlie is the son of one
of the venerable eight founding members of the Order,
Brother James Vlass. Stories were swapped and Brother
Charlie was happy to catch-up with members as he has not
been able to attend monthly meetings due to his health.

The Brethren commissioned a statue of Hippocrates that the
AHEPA Hippocratic Foundation donated and placed at a park
at the University of South Alabama. The 8-foot, 2 ½- ton statue,
sculpted by Seamus O'Mahoney, has been delivered and groundbreaking was held April 5, 2014. Brother Nick Stratas stated,
"This project along with the School of Classical Studies Program,
the Replica of the Tholos, and the AHEPA 310 Scholarship, all
at the university, is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of
the members of AHEPA and the Greek American community."
Hippocrates is considered the "Father of Medicine" and the first
physician to argue that disease was due to environmental factors,
diet and living habits, and not punishment of the gods.

District 2
Lycurgus Chapter 12 and DOP Alcameon
Chapter 167, Tampa, Fla.
The AHEPA family awarded four scholarships at their annual Scholarship Dinner. The
recipients were: Alexa Anna Alsina, Angelina Nika Bartucci, Alexander Robert Garcia, and
Aris Eugene Rogers. The recipients were outstanding students in high school or college and
in addition to their outstanding academic achievements they all had a stellar record of community service, giving many hours of their time to community based projects. Previous
scholarship recipients were on-hand to attest to the value of having received an AHEPA family scholarship.

AHEPA Chapter 296, Pensacola, Fla.
The Brethren have awarded seven scholarships to six students with two being
members of the Greek community. The scholarships were presented by President
George Dodge and Founder/Advisor Joseph O'Neil of the AHEPA-Pensacola
Charitable Foundation at the Northwest Florida State College and Gulf Breeze High
School. Jennifer Pope received the Krom and Stephanou Scholarship along with the
Matsatsos Scholarship. Ashley Tringas and Amanda Holland received Matsatsos Scholarships as well. Nick Straviski, Luis
Melecio-Zambrano and Paige Cromer were each awarded an APCF Scholarship.
