AHEPA FAMILY CHAPTER NEWS
District 12
AHEPA Chapter 78, Gary/Merrillville, Ind.
The brothers attended the St. Baldric's Event in Merrillville to support
the NICK (Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids) Foundation, a local volunteer run organization providing support for children and their families
affected by pediatric cancer. The brothers presented a combined donation of $1,200 from Chapter 78, AHEPA 78 Charities, and AHEPA 78
Housing Inc., to the NICK Foundation.
District 14
James L. Karthan Chapter 192, Des Moines, Iowa
At its April 18, 2018 chapter meeting, which Supreme President
Carl R. Hollister attended, the brothers voted unanimously to
rename their chapter the "James L. Karthan Chapter 192," Des
Moines, Iowa. This act was in recognition of Brother Karthan's
lifetime of contributions to AHEPA at the local and district levels as
well as for his being the driving force in the planning and construction of multiple AHEPA affordable housing for the elderly properties
in the greater-Des Moines area. Brother Karthan also serves on the
Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the AHEPA National
Housing Corporation.
District 16
Alexander the Great Chapter 29, Houston
Brother Tim Tsotsonis completed the 2018 BP MS 150, riding from Houston to Austin
to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. MS has impacted his family directly. Brother Tim rides for the cause throughout the year, but this is the longest and most
grueling challenge he has encountered.
Separately, the chapter hosted Love, Love,
Love, a Valentine's Day Beatles-themed
extravaganza, with more than 150 AHEPA
family members, including ladies from
Houston's newly-installed Maids of Athena
chapter. Guests enjoyed live music from the
Fab 5, a Vegas-styled Beatles tribute act,
along with casino gaming and a martini
bar worthy of James Bond.
