upreme President Carl R.
Hollister led the annual
AHEPA Family Leadership
Excursion to Greece,
Cyprus and the Ecumenical
Patriarchate, April 30 to
May 11, 2018. AHEPA has organized
overseas excursions since 1928.
The delegation's first stop was to
the Ecumenical Patriarchate to meet
with His All Holiness Ecumenical
Patriarch Bartholomew I and to visit the
Theological School of Halki, which has
been closed since 1971 by the Turkish
government. At the Theological School
of Halki, the AHEPA family presented
Metropolitan Elpidophoros, dean of
the Theological School of Halki, with
a $5,000 donation. Moreover, AHEPA
presented
Ecumenical
Patriarch
Bartholomew with a $20,000 donation.
A special thanks to Canadian President
Christos Argiriou, who secured a majority of the donation from our Canadian
chapters.
"We remain steadfast in our support
for religious freedom and human rights
for the Ecumenical Patriarchate and all
religious minorities in Turkey," Hollister
said.
The delegation arrived at Ikaria, the
ancestral home of Supreme President
Hollister, in truly unique fashion-via
Chinook helicopter, courtesy of the
Greek government. (As a veteran of
the U.S. Army Special Operations, the
supreme president is no stranger to riding in a Chinook.) There, the delegation
met with the administration of Ikaria
Prefectural General Hospital, located in
Agios Kirikos, to learn more about the
hospital's needs to serve the community. After receiving a presentation from
the director of the hospital, Stamatis
Kardasis, AHEPA pledged to provide
assistance. Through AHEPA's public
health assistance to Greece campaign,
AHEPA has been able to team-up with

Highlights from Thessaloniki included a visit to AHEPA Hospital (above) and a dinner hosted by
Chapter HJ-3 (below).
