AHEPA FAMILY CHAPTER NEWS
District 2
George Washington Chapter 16, Tarpon Springs, Fla.
On the Monday following Hurricane Irma's path through Florida, the chapter opened its
home to serve 100 meals to persons without electricity. During that week, the chapter fed
more than 350 persons, some who were homeless, in partnership with a local food bank.
Also, the Sons of Pericles from Tallahassee, Fla., arrived to deliver water and canned goods.
Also, despite the aftermath of Irma, the chapter provided a makaria memorial meal for a
relative of a past chapter president to 125 persons.
Space Coast Chapter 401, Melbourne, Fla.
Brothers Chris Kitsopoulos, George Yaitanes, and Branko Nikolich were
recipients of the Florida Governor's Veterans Service Award. Florida Governor
Rick Scott bestowed the awards upon the recipients. The Award reads:
"WHEREAS, it is proper that all Floridians honor America's military veterans,
including Florida's more than 1.5 million living veterans, through whose selfless service and sacrifice we enjoy freedom and liberty."
District 3
Woodrow Wilson Chapter 241, Newport News, Va.
Newly-elected chapter officers were installed by District 3 Governor Bill
Bond, Sept. 21, 2017. At the Installation Ceremony, District Governor Bond
presented the President of the Year Award to Brother Nick J. Matthews for
outstanding leadership during his 2016-17 term, and he also presented
Corresponding Secretary George T. Anas with the Ahepan of the Year
Award in recognition of his outstanding service to the chapter as scholarship chairman, publicity chairman, nominations chairman and secretary
of the Board of Governors. Brother Matthews, a 43-year Ahepan, has
served the Order on the National Board of Trustees, as Supreme Governor,
past District 3 Governor, and all chapter offices. Brother Anas, a 46-year
Ahepan, is also a past District 3 Governor.
