AHEPA Salutes Greek American Hero Who Helped Foil Attack
Among the three American heroes who foiled a suspected terrorist's
attack on a French train, one was Oregon National Guardsman, and
Greek American, Alek Skarlatos. The attack occurred August 21,
2015.
"The American Hellenic community could not be more proud and
salutes the courage and bravery of Alek and his friends," Supreme
President John W. Galanis said.
President Obama and French President Hollande hailed them
as heroes with the latter presenting them with the Legion of Honor,
which is France's highest recognition.
Alek's brother, Solon, told the Los Angeles Times that Alek just
returned from a tour in Afghanistan and traveled to Germany to visit
relatives he'd never met. Their grandfather was a Greek prisoner of Skarlatos receives the Legion of Honor from French President

More than 80 AHEPA family members attended, including Supreme President
John W. Galanis.
After the game, the AHEPA family was able to meet-and-greet with Jacki. She
came out and thanked everyone for their support and took pictures and signed
autographs.
