AHEPA Mourns Passing of Past National
Sons Advisor Chris Economides, Jr.
AHEPA deeply mourns the passing of long-standing Past National Advisor to the Sons of
Pericles Chris Economides, Jr., Feb. 14, 2016, announced Supreme President John Galanis.
He was 84. Brother Economides was a 65-year Life Member of AHEPA Chapter 2, Charlotte,
N.C. He was a recipient of the AHEPA Lifetime Achievement Award, and he was the first
inductee into the Sons of Pericles Wall of Honor.
"Brother Economides literally molded a generation of young
Greek Americans into the leaders they are today, and from his
labor of love, communities throughout North America have benefited," Galanis said. "There are no words to convey the appreciation we have for Brother Economides' selfless dedication to our
Order, Junior Order, and to the community at-large. Simply stated,
he was a mentor to many and a hero to all for his military service
during the Korean War."
Galanis added, "His colorful personality, masterful storytelling and joke-telling talent, and charming presence at AHEPA family events sorely will be
missed. Our deepest sympathies are with the Economides Family. May his memory be
eternal."
Brother Economides, or "Mr. E." as he was affectionately called, attended The Citadel
until the U.S. Army drafted to serve in the Korean War. On the 51st Anniversary of the
Korean War, Chris was honored with the Korean Service Medal, a Bronze Service Star, and
the U.N. Service Medallion Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Economides is survived by his devoted wife Patricia Economides; son, Chris
Economides III and wife Mitzi; of Charlotte; daughter, Constance Economides of Charlotte;
her fiancé, Chad Howard of Cornelius, N.C.; and daughter Marian Leclerc and husband, Chris
of Charlotte; five grandchildren: Robert Brendle, Isabella Brendle, Zoe Economides, Avery
Leclerc and Evan Leclerc all of Charlotte; and a sister, Betty Yianitsas of Houston.
