AHEPA Commends Hellenic Caucus'
Summit on Greece
Backs effort to engage Homeland Security Dept.
on Refugee Crisis
AHEPA applauds a Summit on Greece hosted by the Congressional Caucus
on Hellenic Issues, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 2015, at the U.S. Capitol, announced
Supreme President John W. Galanis.
"AHEPA sincerely appreciates and commends the Hellenic Caucus, under the
leadership of Congressman Gus Bilirakis and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney,
for organizing and hosting the Summit on Greece," Galanis said. "The summit
examined the two crises Greece is confronting, economic and migratory. AHEPA
looks forward to contributing to the efforts of Congress, as well as the Obama
Administration, to assist Greece and its people."

Hellenic Caucus Sends Letter to DHS Secretary
As a result of the summit, the Hellenic Caucus took bipartisan action to urge the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide assistance for Greece
as the latter stands at the frontline of the refugee crisis. The Caucus sent a letter
signed by 32 U.S. representatives to DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson that calls for DHS
to provide technical guidance and assistance to Greece and its border control
agencies to effectively deal with the crisis.
"AHEPA commends the Hellenic Caucus for taking swift action following
October's Summit on Greece to explore a substantive policy initiative that the
American Hellenic community
supports," Galanis said. With the
number of sea
arrivals of refugees to Greece
exceeding a half million, and
growing each day by the thousands, time is of the essence
to assist Greece. We hope the
Caucus' initiative will yield
a favorable response from
Homeland Security that
leads to the U.S. government lending its expertise
to help our valued ally,
Greece. We sincerely
appreciate the bipartisan backing from the
legislators who signed
the letter."

for the letter to congressional offices.

Hellenic Caucus
Membership Gets
Boost
Thanks in part to AHEPA's grassroots outreach and follow-up from April's AHEPA
Family Capitol Hill Day, membership in
the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic
Issues has received a boost. Since midJuly, membership in the Hellenic Caucus
has grown to 131 members, which is an
increase of 11 U.S. representatives.
"We sincerely thank the U.S. representatives who have recently joined the
Hellenic Caucus," Supreme President John
W. Galanis said. "We look forward to working with them, and their staffs, on issues
of importance to the American Hellenic
community. We also thank the dedicated
grassroots activism of Ahepans from all
across the country for their efforts."
The 11 U.S. representatives to join
the caucus since mid-July are: Rodney
Davis (R-IL), Dan Donovan (R-NY), Robin
Kelly (D-IL), Rick Larsen (D-WA), Bradley
Byrne (R-AL), Reid Ribble (R-WI), Adam
Kinzinger (R-IL), David Rouzer (R-NC),
Brian Babin, DDS (R-TX), Steve Scalise
(R-LA), and Donald Norcross (D-NJ).
U.S. Rep. Scalise serves in a leadership
position as Majority Whip.
