AHEPA Publishes 2014 Congressional "Info-Card"
AHEPA released its 2014 Congressional
Info-Card for the 113th Congress
on
issues of
importance to
the
American Hellenic community prior
to the November midterm election,
announced Supreme President Phillip
T. Frangos.
"The midterm election presented
us with an opportunity to educate
the American Hellenic community
about the level of support members of
Congress have toward issues that are
important to the community," Frangos
said. "If anything, the Info-Card may be
the best indicator of how well legislators
are aware of, or engaged in, our issues."
Traditionally known as a
"Scorecard," this year it was published
as an "Info-Card." According to Frangos,
there were not enough hard criteria,
specifically recorded floor votes, upon
which to formulate a proper evaluation.
"Despite this, we wanted to continue
to provide the community with
a service of keeping it informed and
updated about what transpires on
Capitol Hill by producing the InfoCard,"
he said.
The Info-Card is useful after the
election, Frangos added. He encouraged
the community to outreach to
members of Congress to thank them if
they are supportive on the issues or to
inquire why not if they are disengaged.
The Info-Card can be vehicle through
which the grassroots can request meetings
with legislators.
"Because the success of government
depends on an engaged and educated
citizenry, we are proud to provide the
community with this helpful tool,"
Frangos said. "We encourage the community
to utilize it and share it with
family, friends and colleagues even
after the election."
