This resulted in what could be viewed as the most efficient use of buildable city space, but also in unbroken walls that blocked sunlight, sight of the sky, and pedestrian cross-access between intersections. Now Chicago may be in the vanguard, with its encouragement of more slender high-rises occupying smaller footprints. And it appears that this will have a particularly beneficial effect on residential towers—giving virtually every tenant natural light and views.
