Chicago Residential Towers - (Page 6) SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION SUPPORTING FAIRBANKS The groundwork at the 600 North Fairbanks project required 40 caisson locations, each 93 ft deep. Revcon Construction Corporation of Prairie View, IL, installed the caisson foundations. Some of the shafts were as large as 7.5 ft. in dia with 17-ft-dia bells. Several of the caissons required full-length reinforcing steel. Temporary casing to 40 ft deep with a permanent corrugated liner was used at all caisson locations. The temporary casing was installed and extracted by a vibratory driver/extractor. What made this a challenging caisson job was the very tight site conditions combined with high caisson volume, 40-ft-long casings and liners and full-length 91-ftlong reinforcing steel cages. The eight caisson locations at the core required more than 100 tons of reinforcing steel. The total concrete and spoil volume was close to 6000 cu yds for the 40 caisson locations. That’s a lot of work in a 130 x 80-ft site. ■ 6 Midwest Construction http://www.sts.aecom.com http://www.sts.aecom.com
