»AAPA EVENTS XXIII CONGRESS OF LATIN AMERICAN PORTS A APA's 23rd Annual Latin American Ports Congress was held on August 26-29 in Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, with more than 300 participants representing 20 countries in attendance. The theme for this year's summit was "The Pivotal Role of Latin American Ports in the Integration of the Hemisphere and Regional Development," and panel sessions expanded on the theme by exploring complementary topics such as economic integration trends and perspectives, environmental sustainability, global security issues, inland waterways and river ports. Mr. Raúl Torre Gamboa of API Port of Progreso, Mexico, and Mr. Víctor Julio González Riascos of SPR Port of Buenaventura, Colombia, were elected to become the next Chairman and ViceChairman, respectively, of the Latin American Delegation at AAPA's Annual Convention in Houston in November. In partnership with the government of the Province of Misiones and hosted by the Argentine Ports of Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, Madryn, La Plata, Quequén, and Rosario, the Congress featured a number of social activities that included a tour of the famous Iguazú Falls, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ● FALL 2014 * WWW.AAPASEAPORTS.COM 55 http://WWW.AAPASEAPORTS.COM
