JAXPORT's LNG Cluster
JAXPORT is home to an important,
emerging LNG cluster.
Jacksonville's LNG activities are among
the most diverse in the nation. Its leadership on the Puerto Rican trades is
making it homeport to four LNG-fueled
container ships: two TOTE Maritime
ships already operate out of Blount Island
Marine Terminal, and soon two Crowley
Maritime Corp. container ships will operate at Talleyrand terminal. While the
Crowley ships will be fueled by an ondock bunkering facility, the TOTE ships
will be LNG-bunkered by the Clean

welcomed by future LNG vessels.
"The port hopes to go to 52 feet of draft
for ongoing commercial competitiveness,"
said Pedersen.
Many of the $50 billion in projects under
construction or pending locally, including
a large export plastic pellet project by
ExxonMobil, are being spawned by the
natural gas boom. "The natural gas business diversifies the risks for the port. It
is a great way to expand," said  Pedersen.
Cryogenic tanks that will be used to fuel the ships at the Fuel Depot were recently shipped
to the Talleyrand Terminal at JAXPORT.
Jacksonville - arriving at Blount Island
later this year; it will be North America's
first LNG bunker barge.
The port also has three liquefaction
plants in the works: Eagle LNG is currently
building a facility in west Jacksonville and
already planning a second near Blount
Island Marine Terminal, and JAX LNG is
planning a liquefaction and storage facility
nears Dame's Point. In addition, a number
of CNG and LNG fueling stations have
popped up to serve trucking fleets.

In the container sector, JAXPORT
ocean carriers are moving ISO-tank
containers of LNG to markets in Puerto
Rico, the Caribbean and Central America.
David Stubbs is director of properties and
environmental compliance at JAXPORT.
He expects the port will see increased volumes of ISO export containers, due to market opportunities and collaboration among
regional LNG interests.
