» CASE STUDY: PORT METRO VANCOUVER Port Metro Vancouver Announces Funding for Security Expansion P   ort Metro Vancouver in September announced infrastructure investment totaling $106 million that will strengthen the U.S.-Canadian border, improve marine container inspection capacity and improve efficiency at the port. The expansion, which will be jointly funded by the port and the Canadian government, includes two new marine container examination facilities to meet the anticipated growth in container volume through Deltaport, British Columbia. The Roberts Bank facility, located at the east end of the Deltaport causeway on the Tsawwassen First Nation Industrial Lands, is expected to open in the summer of 2015, and the Burrard Inlet facility is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015. These new facilities will help reduce processing times, resulting in savings for Canadian businesses, while protecting the health, safety and security of Canadians. The Canadian government will invest nearly $50 million in the project as part of its commitment to the Beyond the Border Action Plan, a shared security initiative announced in 2011 by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and President Barack Obama. These projects are an integral part of the container logistics flow in the Lower Mainland. "These projects are a great example of what collaboration can accomplish. Together, the government of Canada, Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) and Port Metro Vancouver are working to strengthen the security and efficiency of our gateway, while improving the environment and quality of life in our communities," said Robin Silvester, president and CEO of Port Metro Vancouver. The Canadian government will invest nearly $50 million in the project as part of its commitment to the Beyond the Border Action Plan, a shared security initiative announced in 2011 by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and President Barack Obama. International Trade Minister Ed Fast, who was on hand at the port to announce the investment, told the Vancouver Sun that the marine container examination facilities will improve security and help to increase exports to new markets by reducing processing times. He also said the joint U.S.-Canada cargo security strategy will facilitate the movement of shipments between Canada and its neighbor to the south, the country's biggest trading partner. ● AU AUTOMATED D TRACKING AT THE CORE Automated, intelligent tracking is at the core of Vista's Smart Sensor Radar System (SSRS).
