The Alabama Road Builder - Fall 2013 - (Page 11) Chairman and fellow Alabama Road Builder Steve Wright of Wright Brothers Construction Company in Charleston, Tennessee. He spoke about the issues facing the industry, his role as ARTBA Chairman and challenges with the reauthorization legislation set to be debated next summer. Also during the morning session, a bit of local flavor was provided as a presentation was made by Vulcan Materials' Kelly Harrington and Jorge Chabolla, Vice President and General Manager of the local Calica quarry owned by Vulcan Materials. Jorge provided a wonderfully entertaining history of the quarry in the area and how such an enormous facility and business operates in this unique environment. Attorney Joe Duncan gave a comprehensive update on the Weaver vs Balch case pending before the Alabama Supreme Court. ARBA, through the tireless efforts of Mr. Duncan, has entered into the issue by submitting a friend of the court brief in support of H. O. Weaver. Finally, ARBA attorney Daniel Lindsey, with Rushton Stakely in Montgomery, gave a presentation on the recently updated federal tax laws and how they would impact family businesses – always an interesting and informative topic for our attendees. We are grateful to Mr. Wright, Mr. Harrington, Mr. Duncan and Mr. Lindsey for taking the time out of their busy schedules to be a part of our special event and for making it so informative. Activities during the convention included our general meeting sessions, a ladies brunch, dessert reception, golf tournament (with a few uninvited guests – MOSQUITOES!!!) at the Riviera TPC golf course and the annual President’s Dinner and dance. A special thank you to Sonny Bunn for organizing the golf teams for the golf tournament. Despite the bugs, the golfers played in one of our most scenic golf destinations ever for a convention, and the Live Auction was, as always, a big hit. Thank you, Sonny for all your hard work. Many thanks also to Hayley Drumwright for all her support during the convention. Thank you ARBA members for all your support of YOUR association, and we hope to see you at all future convention locations. ❏ The Alabama Roadbuilder • Fall 2013 11 Table of Contents for the Digital Edition of The Alabama Road Builder - Fall 2013 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE ALABAMA ROADBUILDERS CONVENTION 2013 HIGHLIGHTS 2013 LEGISLATIVE WRAP-UP PROPOSED I-10 BRIDGE HOPES TO CURE BOTTLENECK IN MOBILE ALDOT HIGHWAY & BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION WORKER SAFETY ARTBA LEGAL MEMBER PROFILE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES MARKETPLACE HEARD ALONG THE HIGHWAY INDEX TO ADVERTISERS/ADVERTISERS.COM The Alabama Road Builder - Fall 2013 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0316 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0216 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0116 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0415 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0315 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0215 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0115 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0414 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0314 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0214 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0114 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0413 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0313 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0213 http://www.nxtbook.com/naylor/ALRQ/ALRQ0113 http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/naylor/ALRQ0412 http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/naylor/ALRQ0312 http://www.nxtbookMEDIA.com
