fund The Ed & Charlotte Rodgers Scholarship Fund - Advancing Educational Excellence for Alabama's Construction Industry T he Ed & Charlotte Rodgers Scholarship Fund was established by the Alabama Road Builders Association in 1978 to promote excellence in Alabama's transportation construction industry. Since its inception, the Fund annually awards grants to students with exceptional preengineering academic standards. Thanks to the generosity of the Rodgers family, this trust was set up for the sole purpose of enhancing the field of civil engineering across the state of Alabama. Students at all accredited Alabama engineering schools may apply for the scholarship once they have completed their freshman year, have a satisfactory grade point average, are in good standing with the university and can demonstrate some financial need. All applications are received by a committee comprised of faculty members from the Departments of Civil Engineering at Auburn and Alabama, and upon review by the ARBA Scholarship Committee Trustees, are recommended to the full Board for final approval. A portion of the proceeds from the ARBA golf tournaments fund the scholarship program. The success of this program is a source of pride for the Alabama Road Builders Association, as we know we are providing future leaders in our field of work the opportunity to advance their education. As we work toward the next generation of engineers for transportation construction industry, your Alabama Road Builders Association is proud to announce the recipients of this year's grants. We are extremely proud of these students and of all our applicants. We hope we can adequately assist all those young men and women who are interested in pursuing a career in civil engineering and the highway construction industry. These outstanding young men and women were invited to join the Alabama Road Builders Association members and guests at their annual meeting in September. If you know any of these students, be certain to let them know how proud we are in the industry of their endeavors and efforts for  a  successful future in transportation construction. Please contact the ARBA  office at 334-832-4331, if you would like additional information on this program. ❏ AUbURN UNIVeRSITy UNIVeRSITy OF AlAbAmA Courtney Jenkins Nathan Moore William Stocks Jacob Busing Carter Pritchard Clyde Yelverton Foundations of the Community the Alabama roadbuilder * Winter 2014 625777_Vulcan.indd A quality road, school or office building starts with a strong foundation. We know that because we're the nation's largest producer of crushed stone, sand and gravel, and related products - building materials used across America in all types of construction projects. Communities are built on strong foundations, too. That's why Vulcan and its employees support education, cultural organizations, community programs and other activities that enhance the quality of life. After all, people are the most important foundations of the community. And as our communities grow and become stronger, so do we. 1 15 03/02/13 12:46 AM
