FEATURE AAMGA 2015 PAPers WinninG White S IxTY rISk aND insurance management majors from 11 colleges and universities across the United States participated in the AAMGA Education Foundation's Annual Wholesale Insurance White Paper contest this year. Topics included cyber liability, terrorism, genomic testing, autonomous cars, labor disputes, Uber, flood, kidnap and ransom, solar storms, energy risks, medical malpractice, entertainment exposures, coastal risks, global marine, obesity, captives and regulatory issues. Each of the papers were submitted to eight industry judges, who graded them without knowing the name of the student or the college or university they are currently attending, in order to ensure fairness. "This was the largest number of papers ever submitted and we had more RMI programs from universities involved than ever before," said AAMGA University Chancellor Mark Rothert of Rothert Insurance in Portland, OR. "However, what was even more impressive was the depth of the research and quality writing of the papers submitted," he added. Students submitting the three top scoring papers are awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the AAMGA Education Foundation, and are invited, along with their faculty advisor, to an all-expense paid trip to attend the AAMGA Annual Meeting, May 17-20, 2015 at the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, MD. Their papers are also published here in this issue of Wholesale Insurance News magazine. The following abstracts represent the best of the submitted 2015 White Papers. The works cited and bibliographies have been edited due to space considerations. Full versions of the White Papers can be viewed on the AAMGA University's webpage: education/whitepapers. The AAMGA and the AAMGA Education Foundation extend congratulations to the following winners of the 2015 White Paper contest: * Why the BP Macondo Gulf Blowout is Important... and It's Not What You Think, by Hayley E.F.
