AAMGA EDUCATION FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2016 ANNUAL WHITE PAPER CONTEST FOR RMI STUDENTS E ACH YEAR THE AAMGA Education Foundation conducts a White Paper Re- search Contest for students enrolled in risk management and insurance pro- grams at colleges and universities across the country. The contest allows students to differentiate themselves by researching a topic of relevant inter- est or an emerging risk within the wholesale insurance industry, and receive one of three $1,000 scholar- ships, an all-expense paid trip and registration to the 90th AAMGA Annual Meeting, May 22-25, 2016 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, for them and their professor or advisor, and the opportunity to shadow an AAMGA member during their meetings at the conference. The winning papers will be published in the May 2016 issue of Wholesale Insurance News magazine. This year, the Education Foun- dation is teaming up with the Association's Emerging Issues & Trends Committee. The topics have been sorted into three categories based on areas of work and research the committee is undertaking on developments within the industry. An electronic version of the bro- chure and specific details have been sent to all university RMI programs across the country. RESEARCH CRITERIA: FOCUSING ON THE WHOLESALE INSURANCE PERSPECTIVE There are a number of emerging issues and trends taking place in today's market impacting the whole- sale insurance industry: INDUSTRY CONCERNS IMPACT ON THE WHOLESALER * Increasing capacity * Federal and state regulation * Standard markets infringing on E&S market * Entrance of non-traditional com- panies into insurance industry * Increasing consolidation (retailer, wholesaler, carrier) * Erosion of wholesale distribution value proposition EMERGING RISKS AND HOW WHOLESALERS CAN BEST ADDRESS THEM * Autonomous vehicles * Increasing cyber exposures * Global climate change * Impact of hydraulic fracking on insurance exposures * Growth of peer-to-peer sharing economy TECHNOLOGY AND THE WHOLESALER * Big data enables use of predictive analytics * Widening technology gaps * Internet of Things * Preparation for the seamless user experience * Increasing challenges in workforce dynamics Students have been invited to select a topic from one of the three above categories, and provide a white paper of the research supporting the AAMGA Education Foundation Chancellor presents the 2015 RMI White Paper Contest Awards to Hayley Leather - Temple University; Eric Vickers and his advisor, Dr. Karen Epermanis - Appalachian State University; and Michael Fielding and his advisory Dr. Cassandra Cole - Florida State University, at the Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
