AMERICAN BANKERS ASSOCIATION

ABABJ: What are you doing to spread
the word about Amplify?
Erin Scheithe: We've launched the Get
Amped Challenge to encourage bankers
not just to register for Amplify (amplifybankers.com), but to utilize its resources. The challenge pits two teams-one
of banks west of the Mississippi and
one for those east of it-against each
other. They earn points for registering
and taking certain actions, like tweeting
and hosting a bank visit.
Of course, along the way, bankers are
advancing important advocacy goals,
making the contest a "win" for the industry. For example, a banker might
score points by contacting a lawmaker
about the need for examination fairness
and reform, or tweeting about why it's
time for credit unions to pay their fair
share of taxes.
ABABJ: how can bankers monitor their
region's Amplify progress?
ES: We want to have 5,000 bankers
registered by February 28. Bankers
can track how their team is doing by
visiting aba.com/getamped. The winning team will be recognized at the ABA
Government Relations Summit, where
the losing team will be forced to do

ABA Annual convention kicks off with Habitat Build
Bankers at ABA's annual convention in New Orleans once again participated in a Habitat for Humanity build for two local families in need.
"This build wouldn't be possible without the continued support of our members and
state association allies," ABA President and CEO Frank Keating said at the convention.
"Banks are the backbone of their communities and as demonstrated here today, serve
to better communities across the country."
Both homes will go to New Orleans natives: Lynn Breaux and her son, Gage; and
Latoure Steward and his daughter, Donesty.
ABA donated more than $26,000 for general operating support to the New Orleans
Area Habitat for Humanity in honor of Dr. Thomas Laired Jones for his 20 years of service to Habitat. "Tom has been the heart and soul of our relationship with Habitat,"
said Keating. "With Tom's help, we've completed 13 builds nationally and hundreds
locally with bankers."
ABA also is developing compliance training for Habitat for Humanity International. n
ABA releases Basel III calculator
ABA has launched an Excel calculator to help bankers assess the effects of upcoming
Basel III regulations on their banks.
ABA member bankers can enter their bank information and see changes to their
risk-weighted assets under the new rule. They also can assess the effects on their capital ratios and the additional capital required to reach their target capital ratios.
ABA welcomes feedback as it works to improve the calculator.
Download the calculator at aba.com/Tools/Economic. n
