The competition, held February 16, was hosted by the Cosmetologists and Barbers of Iowa (CBI). In the "Hollywood Glamour" division, teams consisted of three student stylists and their model. Using this year's theme, teams were judged on hair, makeup, nails and attire. In all, 38 teams from cosmetology schools across the state competed. Four of the top-10 placing teams were Faust Institute teams. Taking top honors was Spirit Lake team, Megan Fisher of Estherville, Jacque Jepsen of Terril, Kelsey Dietrich from Graettinger and model Samantha Seifried. -COSMIC-tologist entry in the Educational Forum event in Fort Worth, Texas, and were rewarded with a first place trophy in the three-person team event. Taking advantage of Roswell's pop culture phenomenon with UFOs, cosmetology students Dadrian Chaves, Paris Saragosa, Brittany Harris and MacKenzie Whitcamp created a cosmic space theme that incorporated cosmetology and aliens. The keynote speaker of the event was Stacey Broughton. This former senior art director for the Vidal Sassoon Academy and a pioneer and ambassador for Sassoon by bringing visual styling ideas, played an imperative role in creating the unique Vidal Sassoon 'look.' Sport Clips Raises $500,000 Through "Help a Hero" Campaign Olympian University Students Win Galactic Glam-COSMIC-tologist Bellus Academy Hosts come2gether Cosmetology students from Olympian University skyrocketed to cosmetology fame when they created their Galactic Glam On Saturday, February 8, San Diego's Bellus Academy hosted come2gether, which brought together some of the world's most Sport Clips locations across the nation raised funds totaling $500,000 through its annual Help a Hero campaign, benefiting the Veterans of Foreign Wars-administered Sport Clips Help a Hero Scholarship program. Since 2007, the Sport Clips Help a Hero campaign has supported the VFW's Operation Uplink™ "Free Call Days." In its seventh year, the campaign expanded its focus to offer scholarships of up to $5,000 to active-duty military and veterans who are pursuing an education at post-secondary institutions, including trade schools. Stores donated a dollar from every haircut service to the scholarship program, and sponsors John Paul Mitchell Systems and Nioxin each contributed $10,000 to the effort.
