MESSAGE FROM THE
AND CEA CHAIR
Amp Up The
I realize that so far 2017 has been a rollercoaster ride with more challenges, yet it contains a glimmer of hope for
our future. A new Secretary of Education (Betsy Devos) and yet to be
confirmed Secretary of Labor (Alexander Acosta) are still unknowns.
At this point, speculation about their first edicts would be a misuse of time and energy. So, let's maintain our focus on what we do
best-Educating Students to Become a Licensed, Competent and
Employed Beauty Professionals.
Many of us began our beauty school ownership journey with a mission
to provide quality education so our students can succeed in attaining
their new careers. There are metrics to help us measure our progress,
such as job placement and graduate tracking; but they must be coupled
with others to measure the total success of our programs.
The vitality of successful companies and schools depends on reviewing
and renewing. It is a valuable exercise to review your school's mission
statement and commitment to include career objectives. Consistency
of messaging brings everyone to your shared goals. From the initial
meeting with prospective students to discussions of employment, all
bring the "end goal" into the framework of their educational process.
Creating advisory boards that include employers to support your objectives for career opportunities will support your mission. Your curriculum
updates will link technical competency to career/job placement and help
Instructors and staff consistently keep the career goal in their minds and
in front of their students. All staff, especially our educators, have the
relationships and credibility to influence and direct students to reach
their employment aspirations.
This BeautyLink issue shares more nuggets for amping your placement
education, approaches for grad-tracking and how our Association is working
behind the scenes to add membership value. There is also valuable information about registration for the CEA & AMP Conference July 15-18, in
Las Vegas, NV. It is a win-win for your Educators and Admissions/Marketing
staff. So get ready to review, renew and refuel!
