BeautyLink - Volume 10 Issue 2 - 19

when he founded Pivot Point over 55 years
ago and now our complete team, many of
whom are licensed beauty professionals.
Our core business relies on a thriving school
community, so partnering with an organization like AACS that is driving change and
evolution in our industry is an honor.
(SB) - The beauty school industry
has proven to be very loyal to Milady
for more than nine decades, honoring us with roughly 90 percent market
share. Our founder, Nicholas Cimaglia,
was a champion of the beauty education
industry at every level including being a
founding member of NACCAS, Teachers'
Educational Council (TEC) that became
CEA, and NIC (National Interstate
Coalition of State Boards of Cosmetology).
We are AACS Industry Partners as good
stewards, giving back to the industry and
supporting the schools that have trusted
us with their business for so many years.

BeautyLink - What is the scope of
your involvement with AACS?
(LMG) - Education, education, education and of course our famous "Welcome"
parties for CEA. We are working towards
offering even more free "hands-on" education for school partners and their instructors in different parts of the country.
(JY) - We attend every event, buy booth
space, speak, and deliver education classes
on teacher training, motivation, school
director and student development, front
desk training and ClinicFlow.com. We
encourage all NaB schools and staff to
attend, participate and advocate by keeping up with all government updates. We feel
it's our duty to push the envelope, break
barriers, and help member schools succeed
academically and financially. We encourage the schools to take advantage of what
AACS has to offer. We addressed this by
creating BeautyMob.com, the country's
largest student job site specifically for
the beauty industry and is totally free to
all AACS members. Our commitment to
AACS includes financial support through
donating a portion of our annual profits
plus a 2018 donation of $15,000 to help meet
the challenges.
(RP) - In 2018, our leadership team
decided to increase our support by becoming an Enterprise Partner. This top-tier
level of support is to let the AACS community know that we believe in progressive,
positive change, their redefined mission
and, most important, the future of our
school community.
(SB) - Milady is a Premiere Partner
of AACS, participating in every event as

exhibitors and as sponsors of speakers,
classes and meals. We also support the
AACS Partner exhibits and meal functions
at the NACCAS Workshops. Additionally,
I have been on the AACS Board as a
voting Partner for 6 years. Many of the
Milady team serve as volunteers on AACS
Committees for events, Accreditation
Committee, and Skin Care Council, to
name a few.

BeautyLink - The success and size
of your organization provides opportunities to participate at higher levels. That may not always have been
the case, so what other ways have
you in the past or present supported
the AACS vision and mission?
(LMG) - I will be speaking during the
Spring Leaders Summit/Capitol Hill Day
event in April. I want to make sure that the
passion and personal experience will be
heard; to take our industry, the education
and our license to the next level. We will
stand together for a balanced and united
front for the beauty school industry and
the future of cosmetologists and barbers.
(JY) - Nuts and Bolts encourages and
supports the AACS vision and mission by
actively promoting their events to all of our
schools. We meet with our schools at AACS
events using the networking opportunity
to touch base, fact find, strategically plan
and launch new products and services. We
also look to have some social fun time, like
a horseback ride with a school's team or
meeting everyone in the lounge to discuss
the day.
(RP) - Pivot Point has always been at
the association's disposal - ready to jump
in anywhere we could to support the vision
and mission. Whether it's volunteering on
numerous committees, board membership
or just being an advocate for the community, we have always felt that as our
business thrives, giving back to AACS is
essential to our company's success.
(SB) - Milady's level of involvement
and support ebbs and flows with the association's needs. When the association is
robust and vendor participation is high,
Milady takes a step back to allow others
the opportunity to bring their message to
the forefront. During times of struggle with
membership due to regulatory shifts, as
in the past few years, Milady increases its
level of support to fill the void and ensure
AACS is strong to represent its membership. Aside from monetary sponsorship,
Milady is active in Government Relations,
visiting Capitol Hill on behalf of AACS and
offering support from our corporate public
policy advisors.

BeautyLink - With recent changes
in AACS opportunities, what do
you see are ways for members to
go "Above and Beyond" in their
participation?
(LMG) - We as professional beauty
manufacturers need to lead with top notch
educational support in our schools, and to
reach out to the stylist with advanced education that is affordable, including business
and technical classes. If we invest in the
students, stylists, and barbers at all levels,
they will be better able to support their
families by financially prospering, and they
will emotionally prosper by tackling each
day at their peak performance.
(JY) - These are still being discovered.
Everyone is so busy and there is a lot of
talent in the AACS membership and leadership, so I would like to see more opportunities for "individual school consulting"
where members who have had great successes (or failures) can share and help
other schools on more of a "one-to-one"
basis. We need to ensure that members
are encouraged to ask questions.
(RP) - We, as an organization, feel that
the most influential way members can support the association is simply to "show up,"
fully engaged with your teams at events.
Participation, visionary contribution and
engagement are the keys to moving our
industry forward.
(SB) - AACS Partners should always
ask their customers if they are AACS members. Being part of the AACS community
is instrumental in not only protecting our
community, but also learning best practices
and staying current with trends in education. Within AACS, there are opportunities
to volunteer for events, on committees, and
in classes. One way to be an AACS superhero is to connect with your organization's
representatives in the Senate and the House
when they are home in your district. Meet
with and let them know how beauty education impacts your business and your community, and let them know you are part of
AACS. They know who we are and what we
stand for, but they need to hear it from their
constituents in their home community. At
every level of partnership, advocacy is the
unifier and something we can all do equally!
Regardless of the type or size of your organization, going "above and beyond" is about
a commitment to support our AACS mission
for the benefit of all members, our industry
and communities. The opportunities to participate and build communities of influence
and future leadership continue to grow. Your
AACS involvement is valued, appreciated and
necessary to enlighten and thrive.
