newest judge and
ambassador, Fleury Rose! Recognized by Fast
Company as one of the "100 Most Creative People
in Business" in 2014, the Brooklyn-based nail artist
is a go-to nail designer for celebrities, fashion writers and runway designers seeking inspirational
nail designs. Whether creating a work of nail art
that sweeps across all five fingertips, detailing a
design inspired by Japanese comic book characters
or designing an intricate fingertip floral, Fleury's
designs are miniature masterpieces with the nail
serving as a tiny canvas.
Fleury recently spoke with BeautyLink about
why she got involved with Beauty Changes Lives
and her ongoing love of nail design.
MEET BEAUTY CHANGES LIVES'
BeautyLink (BL): Why did you choose to
get involved as a Beauty Changes Lives
ambassador and judge?
Fleury: I want to help aspiring beauty and wellness professionals learn about the scholarships
and mentoring programs that are available.
Attending school full time can be extremely expensive, especially at schools that offer limited or no
financial aid. I know from experience that beauty
really does change lives and it is such a blessing
to be doing what I do. I'd like to help other people
who want to change their lives and I want to create a positive impact on the next generation of
BL: Who mentored you early in
Fleury: Most of my mentors have been very strong
women. I think it's important to surround yourself
with people who are ambitious, creative and aspirational in their outlook.
BL: How are you paying your success
forward through your own good works
with young people today?
Fleury: Right now I'm developing a program at The
Door in SOHO. (The Door's mission is to empower
young people to reach their potential by providing
comprehensive youth development services in a
diverse and caring environment.) All are welcome
and the only thing required is a love of nails. Twice a
month we meet do our nails, learn nail art, and just
have fun! I have met so many inspirational young
people at The Door and hope to encourage many
of these aspiring beauty professionals to apply for
the Beauty Changes Lives scholarships.

BL: How do you see the nail industry
changing and evolving in the next 12
Fleury: Acrylics seem to be experiencing a comeback! I've been receiving a lot of requests for acrylics.
BL: As a Beauty Changes Lives judge,
what are some qualities you'll be looking
for when you review scholarship and
Fleury: I will be looking for applicants who are creative, passionate and show that they are eager to
learn. I would like to see the Beauty Changes Lives
nail scholarship awarded to someone whose life will
greatly improve as a result of learning nail design.
BL: How do you keep your passion and
creativity alive and what advice would
you give to nail educators to keep them
passionate about their career?
Fleury: I think it is important to stay active in the
nail community. Subscribe to nail magazines. Follow
artists you admire on Instagram or Tumblr and subscribe to the newsletters of your favorite nail brands.
Challenge yourself to try new designs and experiment with techniques that have never been done
before. Everyone experiences lulls in their creativity
and during those lapses I like to get out and find
inspiration in the world around me.
