American Crew 2015-2016 All-Star Challenge; hair

American Crew Announces
Sara Leahy of San Francisco earned the title of 2015-2016
American Crew U.S. All-Star Challenge Winner. Leahy, a
stylist at B Parlor, has been in the industry for the past nine
years and teaches at salons all over Northern California.
Internationally, Sandra Perovic from the United Kingdom
was named the champion of the American Crew 20152016 All-Star Challenge, the top annual global competition
for men's hair styling. The All-Star Challenge is one of the
most widely recognized professional grooming competitions that celebrates stylists from around the world and
challenges them to create styles that are modern, expressive and embody the vision of the American Crew man.
Sport Clips Haircuts Celebrates
1,500th Store Milestone
Sport Clips Haircuts celebrated the opening of its
1,500th location, which happens to be in Founder and
CEO Gordon Logan's hometown of Sumter, South Carolina,
by giving back to area youth.The milestone opening was
marked with a $15,000 donation to Toys for Tots to provide
gifts to children in the state's Sumter, Lee and Clarendon
counties. The contribution from Sport Clips will enable
the Marines of Detachment 1202 to put Christmas smiles
on the faces of approximately 3,000 additional children
in the local area.
Washington Beauty School Gives Back
The Summit Salon Academy of Tacoma, Washington
hosted its first Hair BRA-Zaar fundraising event. The April
6 event raised $6,202 to support breast cancer research
through Wings of Karen, a community-based organization
that funds promising breast cancer research in the Pacific
NW. The Hair BRA-Zaar featured auction items donated by
local businesses, desserts, and a fashion hair show styled
by Academy students and alumni.
In late 2015, Summit was recognized for excellence
in the category of Community Involvement by MODERN
SALON MEDIA's 2015 "Excellence in Education" cosmetology school recognition program.
OPI-AACS Scholarship Winners
As part of OPI's ongoing scholarship program, each year
nine students who are attending AACS member schools
are awarded a $500 scholarship from OPI. Students who
are enrolled, or in the process of enrolling, in a cosmetology
related program at an AACS member school can apply. In
May, Alexa Muir (Taylor Andrews School, Utah) and Arielle
Solomon (Spa Tech, Maine) were recipients of the OPI &
AACS ACE Scholarship. OPI Products Inc., the world leader

of dollars in annual contributions.

Program Accepting Entries
Every year, MODERN SALON's Excellence in
Education program recognizes outstanding
achievement by beauty schools across the
country. Hundreds of applications are submitted
by schools in hopes of being acknowledged for ideas and
best practices worth sharing and being given recognition
across MODERN SALON's print, online and social platforms.
The 2015 honorees were announced at the AACS Annual
Convention & Expo, October 23-26, 2015, in Phoenix,
Arizona. There are categories for both individual schools

Actress Named CND Brand Ambassador
CND (Creative Nail Design, Inc.) announced legendary
Vietnamese-American actress, philanthropist and Lifetime
Achievement Awards recipient, Kieu-Chinh, as the official
Brand Ambassador for new CREATIVE PLAY™ Nail Lacquer.
Kieu-Chinh of "The Joy Luck Club" fame is also president, cofounder and co-chair of the non-profit organization, Vietnam
Children's Fund (VCF), along with the late Lewis Puller Jr.
and journalist, Terry Anderson. Since its inception in 1993,
VCF has built 50 schools in Vietnam that provide high quality
education for more than 25,000 students annually.
