share with the next generation (NextGen) of beauty
and wellness professionals? ScholarTips can help
you do both!
ScholarTips is an integrated movement bringing
together some of the biggest icons in the industry
to support the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation
and celebrate NextGen talent. Announced in July
at CosmoProf North America, ScholarTips invites
beauty and wellness professionals including schools,
brands, licensed professionals and media, to share
their tips of wisdom and treasure with the NextGen.
As individuals share their tips, they are encouraged to challenge their peers to do the same. Case
in point: Celebrated hairstylist and salon owner Kim
Vo shared the hashtag #igaveatip and challenged
celebrity hairstylists Ken Paves and Tabitha Coffey
to share their own tips.

Flexible and Creative Fundraising

ScholarTips provides a flexible platform for the
beauty and wellness industry to support the Beauty
Changes Lives Foundation and the NextGen talent it
serves. Individuals can share their tips digitally on
Instagram, Facebook and Twitter using the hashtags #ScholarTips and #IGAVEATIP. Tips of advice
may include "what I wish I knew then" advice about
starting out in the beauty business, practical work
tips or any other tips that offers encouragement and
support to the next generation.
Monetary donations may be made at https://beautychangeslives.org/scholartips and tips may also be
collected via "in-house" fundraising. For example,
salons and hairstylists can designate a day, week or
month to donate a portion of their tips to support
ScholarTips.
The "beauty" of ScholarTips is the movement's
flexibility. Many brands and individuals are getting creative and developing their own ScholarTips
promotions. For example, Wella kicked off a video
challenge with Top Artists across each of its brands

and leveraged the message on the Wella Ed Instagram
and Facebook pages with a "donate" call-to-action. In
September, Beauty Systems Group (BSG) launched
a retail initiative promoted at Cosmoprof point-ofsale locations. Throughout September and October,
BSG is donating $5 from every bag sold with the
"License to Create" theme to support ScholarTips
and help launch a License to Create BCL scholarship.
In November and December, BSG will continue to
donate $1 from the sale of every License to Create
bag (retail $9.99) to support ScholarTips.

Just the Beginning
The impetus for ScholarTips stems from an effort
to create a week dedicated to celebrating NextGen
talent. The dedicated week segued into a month and
as various members of the industry expressed interest in creating their own ScholarTips initiatives, the
Beauty Changes Lives board of directors elected
to establish ScholarTips as an ongoing campaign.
"The program can be adapted and integrated
into industry events throughout the year," said BCL
President Lynelle Lynch. "Brands, salons and licensed
professionals can show their support for emerging
talent through retail campaigns, in-house fundraisers
and digital challenges. We're especially excited to
see how various segments of the industry put their
own creative stamp on the ScholarTips initiative."

Get Ready to Experience ScholarTips
and More at ABS 2017
Planning is already underway for the 5th Beauty
Changes Lives Experience at the Chicago Art
Institute, during America's Beauty Show (ABS),
March 25-27. A highlight of the event will be a presentation featuring the Leo Passage | NextGen Project
winners. Four senior-level beauty and wellness students will travel to Chicago for an all-expense paid
five-night, six-day trip to ABS. Winners will work
with industry and brand leaders to create a cohesive
photo collection and runway presentation for the
Beauty Changes Lives Experience at ABS.
