Public Policy The Importance of Politics in Your Professional Practice CMSA's Public Policy Committee I n June 2013, leaders from the CMSA Public Policy Committee attended CMSA's 23rd Annual Conference & Expo in New Orleans, LA, and presented the poster, "The Importance of Politics in Your Professional Practice." This presentation highlighted the significance of political knowledge as a powerful tool for case managers, patients, and caregivers alike, and is shown in full on the opposite page. CMSA is active in advocating for case management as a practice as well as for safe, patient-centered care on both the national and local levels. The Public Policy Committee focuses on several policy-related initiatives, including the Case Management Model Act, Multi-State Licensure, and seeking recognition of Case Management Week on the national level. Since the poster was presented at the annual conference, CMSA has made progress 26 CMSA TODAY in advocating and providing recognition for case management. In August 2013, Senator Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Senator John Boozman (R-AR) introduced S. Res. 214, a resolution declaring the week of October 13-19, as National Case Management Week. CMSA was an integral part of this progress, joining with ACMA to request the senators' support in the introduction of this resolution.
