ASNM held its annual fall event in October in Calgary, AB. It was a night of networking, fun and food
with friends. The evening began at "Escape Capers YYC"- and was a great opportunity to collaborate and
meet challenges with our colleagues. We finished with a meal and the opportunity to network, discuss
our operations, and generally have fun.
As a follow-up to last summer's success summit
meeting held at the June conference in Ottawa, the
committee summary notes were shared. A meeting
of the group was held in late September to continue
the "One National Voice" opportunities as outlined
at the summit. Membership will be updated as next
ASNM looks forward to the June 2018 CSNM conference, which will be held in Moncton, NB. We

Research has shown that 95 per cent of people who took the FOODSAFE Level 1 exam five years ago or
earlier would not pass the exam if they were tested it today. That is why, starting from July 29th, 2013,
all FOODSAFE Level 1 certificates issued in British Columbia had a five-year expiry date. All existing
FOODSAFE certificates issued before 2013 will be valid until July 29, 2018.
There's a lot to retain about food safety over five years. You and your staff will benefit from a review
of the FOODSAFE course and content sooner rather than later. The FOODSAFE Level 1 course covers key
safe food handling information including the causes of foodborne illness, receiving and storing food,
serving food as well as cleaning and sanitizing.
All employees including Care Aides, Recreational Aides and Volunteers need to update their FOODSAFE
