Food Service & Nutrition - Spring 2018 - 6
CSNM PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
always said to myself that I will not be talking about the flowers and the birds when
springtime hits - but I just can't resist doing
so, being here in Vancouver in beautiful BC.
I have to admit, it is pretty amazing to see
crocuses peeking out of the snow. However, I
am astounded by the weather we have had and
continue to have: a seemingly never-ending winBy Eric Evers,
ter with some spring-like breaks. But, when one
considers that in the old Roman calendar March
was the first month of the year and named after Mars, the god of war,
perhaps this weather should not be so wonder-inducing.
Spring is in the air, though - I see buds forming, smell the fresh
air right off the water, and hear morning birdsong alongside the
never-ending train whistles.
Although February is the shortest month of the year, it sure was a
busy one! February is jammed packed with celebrations and activities:
Super Bowl, Olympics, Mardi Gras, Valentine's Day, etc. February is
also the month when many of us may be reflecting on our resolutions
for 2018 such as: get active, control cholesterol, eat better, manage
blood pressure, lose weight, reduce blood sugar, stop smoking.
February was also the month when we announced the winners of
our Student Competition! Your Board very much looks forward to
greeting and welcoming the two winners in person at our conference
in beautiful Moncton this June.
The preparations for your annual conference are going full-steam
ahead. Your Conference Chair Lorrie Plein and her fabulous team have
exciting and jam-packed days full of education and fun waiting for you.
Be sure to reserve your conference spot since you don't want to
miss out. Our conference theme - Rise Above the Tide: Building
Extraordinary Leaders - will resonate with rich learnings from our
keynote and breakout presenters. Visit www.csnmconference.com for
complete information and details.
One of our major projects for this year is the re-modularizing of
our IT platform. This is moving ahead nicely and we are thrilled to
announce that we will be showcasing our new and improved members'
web portal shortly!
Your CSNM Board continues to concentrate its collaborative efforts
regarding the implementation of our Strategic Plan. It's hard to
believe that the next Strategic Planning session is only 15 months
away - time certainly flies!
Spring is here, which means that summer is not far away - time to
dust off the speedos, boats, motorcycles, lawnmowers and whatever
else there is when it comes to enjoy the summer.
Keep well, stay safe and always be your best.
