Planning for the future

ASHE Monograph

ASHE has published a new
monograph on succession
Succession Planning:
Preparing for the Future
planning. The monograph
of Your Facility and
Your Career
shows health care facility
managers how to conduct
succession planning for their
departments. It also shows
individuals in all positions
how to develop a path for
personal career development. The monograph shows
readers how to:
* Identify key positions that require succession
planning strategies
* Define the competencies required for the identified
positions through accurate position summaries
* Assess current employee competencies for
key positions
* Identify and develop internal resources to fill gaps in
education and experience
* Cultivate external resources and relationships to fill
key facility positions
* Plan for personal career growth
ASHE members can download a free PDF of the
monograph and also have discounted pricing for print
copies. Visit www.ashe.org/successionplanning for the
monograph and additional succession planning tools.

Understanding facility
finance and budgeting
Health care facility managers are
often tasked with doing more with
less. But without an understanding of
finances, budgeting, and the language
of business, facility managers may
have a more difficult time meeting
that goal. A new online course from
ASHE, Finance and Budgeting for
Facility Managers, can help you work
more strategically with hospital
management. The online course also
covers how to plan your budget and
assess the impact of capital budgeting
on facilities. The course can help you
take the finance section of the CHFM
exam with greater confidence. ASHE
members get a deeply discounted
course rate. The course is available
at www.ashe.org.

Resources on door
inspections and
maintenance
The new Conditions of Participation from the Centers for
Medicare & Medicaid Services includes a requirement that
routine inspections of fire doors are performed by "qualified
persons." This does not mean that someone has to go to a class
or earn a certificate to prove they are qualified. A qualified
person is someone "who, by possession of a recognized degree,
certificate, professional standing, or skill, and who by knowledge
training, and experience, has demonstrated the ability to deal
with the subject matter, the work, or the project."
ASHE is working on several resources to help members
get up to speed on door inspection and maintenance. Visit
www.ashe.org/firedoors to learn more.

CHFM exam updated to reflect 2012
edition of NFPA 99

Facility Manager exam was updated earlier this
year to reflect the 2012 edition of NFPA 99?
ASHE's CHFM Exam Review Course has also been updated to
reflect the 2012 edition. ASHE's CHFM Exam Review Course is
available as an e-learning course and a face-to-face education
program. A full list of CHFM exam preparation resources is
