Early in the planning process, it was
determined that this hospital would be
a community epicenter and landmark.
To that end, the architectural team
developed a series of "design drivers" that
would guide decisions throughout design
and construction. The result is a hospital
planned around "evidence-based" design
principles that positively impact the
healing environment. The facility is a
model for community health and wellness
in which hospital leaders put their faithbased mission into action with a number
of novel features. "Novel" seems an
inadequate description of amenities that
include a chef at the helm of a locavore's
restaurant that can be seen from the
lobby, a community garden, an outdoor
demonstration kitchen and free bicycle
rentals in a sustainable environmentally

In 2012, Phase 1 of the project opened

Castle Rock Adventist Hospital lights up the building and the mountain site of which it is an integral part.
Labor and delivery rooms were designed with views of the Rocky Mountains. The rooms reduce the
distance from caregiver to patient and patient to bathroom, reducing the risk of falls.
