"Although Michaela and I grew up in two distinctly different parts of the world, each with its own unique influences, we share similar design ideals and a common dream. I was born and raised in Indiana and graduated from Ball State University's College of Architecture and Planning in 2003. Michaela was born in Italy and completed her architectural studies in Venice and Graz, Austria. In 2010, Michaela founded Hlevel in Naples and I joined her in 2013, creating a firm with a unique design culture. Since joining the AIA, the firm's work has been recognized and celebrated with design awards that have helped build our firm's reputation. Both Michaela and I have been recognized with AIA Florida's Southwest Chapter Individual of the Year Award. Our firm has enjoyed a great partnership with the state association." Brandt Henning, AIA Hlevel's philosophy is simple. The firm strives to provide high-quality design by working with clients on a personal level, understanding the client's needs and staying within budget and schedule. The architects also prefer to design projects in a natural setting and incorporate sustainable and environmentally-friendly design practices into their work. Two recent projects, the Silverstein Residence in Naples and the Howard Cabin in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, are representative of the firm's philosophy and the diversity of its work. Owners of the Silverstein Residence wanted to enlarge and renovate their 1,916-square-foot ranch house in Naples for seasonal use. With a budget of $350,000, the clients wanted a new master suite, the addition of a garage and exercise room, more natural lighting Continued on page 16 Main entrance tower and doorway detail.
